Your support and contributions will enable us to provide basic care for our fosters and fund emergencies. As a 501c3, donations are tax deductible.
Fostering is one of the most rewarding and fun aspects of rescue. It's essential and most folks don't think they have the time or space to help an animal in need. But those that take the leap, and find the time to help, discover that fostering is highly rewarding work that saves lives.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I get any supplies? Yes, you will receive dog food (or food reimbursement), vaccinations, dewormer and whatever supplies is right for your particular foster dog or cat, including toys. We can also reimburse you for supplies. Some fosters volunteer to pay for supplies. Each situation is taken on a case by case basis.
What if my foster gets sick or injured? FCPA pays for all foster dogs/cats medical care. As a foster parent, you'll notify your foster coordinator regarding the nature of the emergency.
Where do I put my foster when I leave the house? You will be provided a loaner crate for dogs or round pen for puppies. We believe strongly in crate training puppies and dogs. Cats or kittens, and even puppies would fair well in an enclosed room such as a bathroom or spare bedroom.
Do I find the adopter? No, you don't have to be involved with this process, but if you do find a great candidate, you'll refer that individual to the adoption coordinator, or refer them to our "Forms" page to fill out an adoption application.
I work a full-time job and have kids, can I still foster? The short answer is yes. But all family situations are unique and all applications require approval from a foster coordinator. A foster with decent time management skills and a dedicated household can make fostering a joy.
I am afraid of getting attached, so should I even bother to foster? Yes! It's normal to get attached to these little love bugs. You take them from uncertain living and health conditions, to a life filled with joy, good health, and love. If we kept every cute foster, we would eventually run out of room in our homes to foster new animals.. It's best to cry from getting attached to a foster, rather than leaving them on the streets because you were too afraid of getting attached.
Okay, I want to foster for FCPA, so how do I go about getting started? You'll go to our "Forms" page and download and fill out the foster application, and email or snail mail back to us. We'll reach out to you to set up a phone interview. Home visits are required, to check for spacing, fencing, and to make any recommendations on what type of fosters would be the best fit for your household.
